the theory of evolution

I’ve read the theory of evolution

Felt the splinters turning
In their lathe
There is smoothness
There is an arc–
The glint I am trying to forget.
I know that the truth is
Unseeable, a ship without
An anchor…aware of the waves
It creates.
Who will I become
But only what I am
Running from.
I’ve read the theory of evolution.

What do you think is up to my right in the picture? A cob web? Probably a cob web. Or maybe it's my Beatles records on top of my air conditioner. It's certainly not fresh, new wainscoting.
